Custom Services Can Be Productized
By transforming custom services into scalable products, entrepreneurs can can build more resilient and prosperous businesses.
James Sowers is a content producer, marketing consultant, and personal coach. He’s one of my favorite people to talk to — he worked with me as MY business coach.
Here, I start by asking him about something I’ve found difficult to do.. that he finds easy to do.
And that’s sharing knowledge.
We then get into the concept of productizing services.
One of my favorite things to do when examining the benefits of a particular action is to examine the benefits of the opposite action. So first, I ask James to give me the benefits of NOT PRODUCTIZING ie. customizing service.
After that, we get into some benefits of productizing:
-
Shorter sales cycle
-
Predictability and stability
-
Time independence
A final reminder: productizing means setting a fixed time, scope, and deliverable, while customization means tailoring each product or service to meet the unique needs of each client.
Both approaches have their benefits, and it's not only possible but often ideal to incorporate both into your offerings.
